Needle In A Haystack

When nonfiction Author Diane Phelps Budden initially reached out to design her picture book NEEDLE IN A HAYSTACK, she had few photos to include in the layout. This book combined the jobs of the illustrator and designer into one. As a nonfiction book, the visuals mainly consist of photographs and other historical materials. I was tasked with arranging the puzzle of found visuals into a cohesive design that will appeal to the reader. After our initial consultation, I explained that many more photos were needed to create the visually enticing book she was looking for. After reviewing the manuscript in detail, I provided guidance and recommendations. Diane’s impeccable research skills discovered and acquired countless photos and historic documents that allowed me to elevate the book’s layout and design to what it grew into.
